LAURA WASHINGTON NAMED PRINCIPAL OF SALINE MIDDLE SCHOOL
SALINE, MICHIGAN August 5, 2020: On Wednesday evening, Laura Washington was introduced to the Saline Area Schools (SAS) Board of Education as the next Principal of Saline Middle School. Superintendent Graden is grateful to have a team of administrators who are flexible and can lead from anywhere. "I am excited to have Principal Washington back at SMS where she was a teacher and assistant principal."
After four years as the Principal at Heritage School, leaving is bittersweet. “I will miss the culture that we created at Heritage. From the dedicated staff, to our love of literacy, to our community meetings and simply taking care of each other, we truly swarmed together.”
A portion of Laura’s 18 year career in Saline was spent as a teacher at Saline Middle School, providing a level of comfort for the transition. “I am excited about the opportunity to reconnect and work with the outstanding Middle School staff. I am also excited about seeing the students and families that I haven't seen in a few years. The Middle School is a truly special place and I look forward to returning!!”
When asked about goals for the building, Laura is prepared to start the 2020-2021 school year meeting the needs of staff, students and the broader Saline community. “First and foremost, to educate and foster a sense of community for our students in the times of a global pandemic. Also, and equally as important, to make certain that our staff, students and families feel well-supported during these unprecedented times. From there, long-term goals will begin to develop as I am able to meet and talk with staff, students and families about their needs and dreams for the Saline Middle School community.”
Laura lives in Saline with her husband, James, her daughter Mia and their dog Enzo.
