Starting in a one-room school in Canada, AUDREY GUSMANO started her “artsy nature” as a child due to her teacher’s projects and continuing into 4-H, Cub and Girl Scouts. “I loved arts and crafts,” says Audrey. This continued into her starting shows in the 1970’s, when she observed and envied stained glass artists. This led her to enrolling in an adult education class to learn to work with glass and her obsession with related projects. She also loves antiques and this led to her preserving original antique postcards, old papers and advertisements that she encases in glass. “They are popular,” Audrey relates, “and each tells a story.” A favorite customer was 94 years old and asked her to create glass keepsake pieces for her entire family including great great grandchildren from pieces of antique linens and doilies. Audrey says, “this was quite a challenge, but it was accomplished and we both were very pleased.” Having her work displayed in the Smithsonian, Library of Congress and three times on the White House Christmas tree, she enjoys the challenge of working with customers and with glass.
