Ms. Melcher is a long-time veteran of the Saline Area Schools.  Previous positions have included teaching stints in general education (HS Algebra, 3rd grade and 6th grade) and special education at all levels from pre-kindergarten through young adults.  Most recently, she served two years as the Director of Secondary Special Education.

Ms. Melcher has a love of extra-curricular activities and was the advisor for the largest club in the nation (362 members!), the Future Homemakers of America, during the 1990s.  In 1998, she was named head coach of the Men’s Varsity Golf team, a position where her passion for competitive interscholastic athletics culminated in a Division I State Championship in 2006.

Ms. Melcher brings a passion for teaching and learning to the New Alternative High School.  Helping students understand who they are, and recognizing talents that may have been undiscovered is a strength. Since 2010, the graduation rate at the Saline Alternative High School has grown from 33% to 89%.

She holds an undergraduate degree from Olivet College, Master’s degree in Special Education from Eastern Michigan University and Administrative Certification, through the Michigan Department of Education, in Special Education Supervision.

Ms. Melcher resides in Saline with her husband, Jack Politz and their over-indulged cat, Hobie.  They share four grown children, all of whom are graduates of the Saline Area Schools. Together, they enjoy golf, water sports, and travel.
