Math Counts -

Meeting Times:  3:00-4:00pm on Wednesdays starting November 2 until the end of February

Fees:  None

Purpose:  To continue to grow each student's love of math through group problem solving and strategy discussions.  MathCounts is a National Program and more info can be found at MathCounts.org

Science Olympiad -18/19

Meeting Times:  Thursdays from 3:00 to 4:30pm in room G104/105 (Mr. Fiske's room)

Fees:  $50 registration 

Purpose of club: Team based participation in Science Olympiad, with invitational competitions leading to regional and hopefully state level participation.  We are encouraging the exploration and learning of many different science and engineering concepts while bringing team enthusiasm and pride.

Robotics Club 18/19

Meeting Times: Tue 6-8pm, Fri 3-5pm

Fees: $65 (payable to Saline Area Schools with SMS Robotics in the memo line)

Purpose of club: Explore the possibilities of STEM through designing, building, programming and operating robots to play a floor game in an alliance format.   Practice engineering principles while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and sharing ideas.

Boys Choir

Meeting Times: Friday 7:10-7:50am in choir room

Fees:  None

Purpose:  This choir for boys only sings at four concerts during the year.  They sing fun choral music of varying styles in two-part harmony.  New members join in September and mid-December.

Girls Choir

Meeting Times: Wednesdays 7:10-7:50 a.m. 

Fees. None

Purpose:  Girls Choir membership is by audition.  Auditions are open to girls enrolled in band, choir or orchestra during the day.  Girls Choir sings advanced music of varying styles in unison or two- or three-part harmony.  Girls Choir performs at four evening concerts during the year and one weekend choir festival in early March.
 

Le club francais au college (Middle School French Club)

Meeting Times: First meeting will be Friday, February 10 from 3:05-5:00pm 

Fees:  None

Purpose of Club:  The purpose of French Club is to cultivate interest in the french language and culture through out the Saline Middle School. To apply new and past knowledge of francophone language and culture to close and vast communities.

Drama Club -

Meeting Times: Fridays at 3:00pm - No drama club when school is not in session or November 16.

All 6th, 7th, and 8th graders are welcome. Can't come to the meeting this week? No problem. We meet every Friday. No signing up necessary, just show up when you can, ready to have fun, play games, and learn about drama. Contact Ms. Glatz with any questions.

Fiddle Club

Group for students in grades 7/8 who play violin, viola, cello or bass to learn how to play and perform folk fiddling music. The emphasis will be on learning how to play folk fiddling music from allover the world as well as each of the regional American styles. Students participate in three major concerts during the year.

Sign-up is through Community Education, 429-8020.  Participation fee required.

Jazz Band

Do you like to play jazz, swing, funk, blues and rock music? Then, you'll love the Jazz Band. Jazz band is open to all 7th and 8th grade students who play clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, tuba, guitar, bass, piano and drum set.  

Sign-up is through Community Education, 429-8020.  Participation fee required.

Spanish Club promotes Spanish language and Spanish culture through hands-on activities such as making candy skulls for Day of the Dead and piñatas for the holiday season among other projects. Spanish Club is open to all students at Saline Middle School. They will be  meeting this semester Tuesdays after school and Wednesdays during lunch to make piñatas.

Purpose of Club:  Encourages teams of learners to have fun, take risks, focus and frame challenges while incorporating STEAM (Science, Tech, Engineering, Arts and Math) and service learning. Teams showcase these skills at tournaments.
