Principal Laura Washington

As I enter my 18th year in Saline, and 20th in education, I can most definitely say that this is the most challenging and most rewarding year yet!  I want to personally thank the families, students and staff of Saline Middle School for the warm welcome as I have the honor to serve as principal.  In this time of most uncertainty, it is with certainty that I say that we want the best for your children, academically, socially and emotionally,  at Saline Middle School.

In the time that I have been with Saline, I have served as a Spanish Teacher, the Saline Middle School Assistant Principal, English Language Learner Coordinator, and now, as the Proud Principal of Saline Middle School.  Personally, I have been married to my wonderful husband for the past 19 years, and we have a daughter who is in sixth grade!  Thank you all for sharing your children with us!  We are looking forward to a year that we will all remember!

Assistant Principal Alex Schukow

As a 2003 graduate of Saline Area Schools, it is an honor to serve as assistant principal at Saline Middle School! The 2020-21 school year marks my second year as assistant principal of Saline Middle School and 11th year overall in K-12 education. Prior to working at Saline Area Schools, I had professional experiences at Cesar Chavez Academy in Detroit, MI, Monroe High School, in Monroe, MI, and as a graduate assistant at Eastern Michigan University, in Ypsilanti, MI.
In February of 2020, I successfully defended my dissertation—Culturally Responsive School Leadership: Examining White Male Principals’ Practices—through Eastern Michigan University’s Educational Leadership Doctoral program. I believe the school staff, learner (student), community, and family are four partners in the educational process. As an educational leader, I want to create a school that is future-focused, culturally responsive, learner-centered, and community-based.
Saline is such a vibrant community, one that I am proud to call home. I look forward to reconnecting with the Class of 2025, 2026, and 2027 families!
