EXERCISE SCIENCE & SPORTS MEDICINE 1 at Saline High School & Chelsea High School
Requirements: Grades 11-12 only, Application Required, Full Year Program
This CTE program introduces students to various aspects of health-related careers, such as Physical Therapist (PT), Athletic Trainer, Occupational Therapist (OT), EMT, First Responder, as well as many others. Students will explore topics including human anatomy and physiology, injury evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation. Students must have a strong desire to learn about health and the human body, anatomy and physiology, as well as have a strong skill set pertaining to Science, English, and communication. Certifications offered include Physical Therapy Aide Certification and BLS CPR & First Aid. Additionally, students have the opportunity to earn college credit through dual enrollment with Adrian College by taking a three-credit course titled Pathologies of Injuries & Illnesses, which is embedded in this program. Students are required to complete 30 observation hours over the course of the year. At the conclusion of this course, students will gain critical skills needed to save a life, in addition to performing a comprehensive injury evaluation. Articulation agreements are available with Washtenaw Community College and Adrian College.
