Young 5s/Kindergarten In District Registration Process

*Young 5s program is filled for the 2023/2024 school year

We plan on offering at least three sections of Young 5s for the 2024/2025 school year.  Families who have students meeting the birth date criteria may register on a first come, first served basis until the Young 5s registration deadline of August 1st, 2024.  Young 5s applications received after that time may be placed on a waiting list.  While we will do our best to place your student in his/her home boundary school, this is not guaranteed and final building placements will be made in mid-late August.

Process: Registration is fully online.  2023/2024 registration is open now and 2024/2025 registration will be opened the week of March 18th, 2024.  When you upload your documents at the end of the registration process, they will be reviewed and you will be contacted only if further information is needed.

Below is a list of documents that will be required to upload:

  1. Proof of Residency (two official forms of ID are required)*

  2. Copy of the Birth Certificate

  3. Current Immunization Record

  4. Proof of Health Screenings (vision, hearing & dental).  These screenings are required by the first day of school.  *The vision screening must be done by a local Health Department or an eye doctor (pediatricians are not licensed to conduct this screening).  It is recommended that screening was completed in the past 6 months and must include tests for monocular visual acuity and eye muscle function.

  5. Proof of Guardianship (if applicable).  If the student is not living with either parent, proof of full guardianship from the Probate Court must be submitted.  This must be updated annually.

  6. Court Documents (if applicable).  A parent who wishes to have the school limit access to their child by the other parent must provide legal documentation to this effect at the time of registration.  The school cannot deny a natural parent access to his/her child without documentation on file.

*Acceptable Proofs of Residency:

  • We are asking families to upload their state-issued photo ID (MI Driver's License or MI State Identification Card) as their first proof

  • For the second Proof of Residency, we can accept the following:

    • Current Utility Bill -OR-

    • Bank Statement -OR-

    • Tax Bill if you own your home -OR-

    • Warranty Deed -OR-

    • Lease Agreement (If used, a current utility bill must accompany the lease agreement)

  • If you are living with someone else in the district, a Shared Household Affidavit will need to be on file.

  • If you submit a form with a future move-in date for your proof of residency, AFTER you have moved into your residence, final documentation (warranty deed, etc.) must be submitted to the District Office by the date established at registration.
