STUDENT HANDBOOKS
sas handbook addendum
Please consider the following as the current addendum to our student handbooks for the 2026–27 school year.
Saline Area Schools has conducted a thoughtful, intentional review of our district policies. As part of this work, we transitioned to a new policy partner, a significant undertaking that allowed us to thoroughly examine our policies and align them with current best practices and legal standards. Under the leadership of our Board of Education, this comprehensive process gave us an important opportunity to ensure our policies are current, well aligned, and reflective of our students' needs.
We are pleased to share that on August 25, 2026, shortly before the start of the school year, the Board of Education intends to adopt the district's new policy manual. As part of that action, the Board also passed a resolution directing administration to update all student handbooks to align with the newly adopted policies by October 15, 2026 — and we hope to complete this work much sooner.
Until the revised handbooks are finalized and approved, the current (2025-2026) student handbooks will remain largely in effect and continue to guide our practices and expectations. We look forward to sharing updated handbook information with families as soon as this work is complete. Thank you for your patience and partnership as we work together to strengthen our district policies for the year ahead.
What This Means for Your Family
Current handbooks remain in effect. Your school's existing student handbook continues to guide daily practices and expectations.
Updated handbooks are on the way. With the new policy manual anticipated, handbooks will revised to align with policy & required by Board resolution no later than October 15, 2026; we hope to share them with families much sooner.
NEW This Year
Student Cell Phone & Wireless Device Policy - On August 6, 2026, the Board of Education adopted Policy 5209: Student Use of Wireless Communications Devices, which takes effect this school year under Michigan law. Because this policy is already in place, we are sharing it with families now, ahead of the full handbook updates.
