Sports League/Program Information

The purpose of the Community Education Volleyball League is to provide students with an opportunity to learn and develop volleyball skills, play games in an organized setting, understand good sportsmanship and teamwork, and have fun! The Saline Youth Rec Volleyball league will be NEWLY FORMATTED this year. We will be joining an outside league - the Tecumseh Youth Volleyball league. Practices will take place ONCE A WEEK on Tuesdays OR Thursdays at a Saline school but games will be played at Tecumseh High School, where we will compete against other schools in the league. Teams that are a part of the league are Tecumseh, Onsted, Hudson, Chelsea. A game schedule will be shared by the league.

This league is designed for both beginning and experienced players, and no previous volleyball experience is required. This league is open to all girls in grades 3-4 and 5-6 and will run 6 weeks of practices and 5 weeks of games. Beginning the week of September 3rd practices will be held once a week on weekdays (practices will be scheduled on Tuesdays or Thursdays) and will run for an hour and a half. Practice times and locations may vary from team to team. Games will be scheduled on Sundays beginning on September 14th. Players need a jersey to participate in this league. Returning players may use their jersey from last year. New jerseys can be purchased with United Image Group at SalineSpirit.com. Volunteers are needed to coach each team!



Saline's Junior Tackle Football League unites and plays against competition from other schools. This program will teach the essential football skills in a team setting and serves as the main feeder program to the Saline Middle School football teams as well as for the teams at Saline High School. Players will learn the offensive and defensive systems put in place by our own legendary head football coach, Joe Palka. Practices will begin in early August and will occur four days a week, with games on Saturdays. Uniform and equipment provided with fee. 

Registration for past participants ends late March/early April. General registration begins early April and ends mid-May. Registration can be made at salineonline.reg.eleyo.com. 

Please note that the league we play in does have a MAX weight limit - we will ask for each player weight to make sure each player is eligible.The league also requires PHYSICALS to be on file - please make sure you keep this in mind as we will be asking for a copy of your players physical prior to the season.

The purpose of the Community Education Basketball League is to provide students with an opportunity to learn and develop basketball skills, play games in an organized setting, understand good sportsmanship and team-work, and have fun! These leagues have been created for both the beginning and the experienced player — no previous experience is required. This league is open to all boys in grades 1-8 and girls in grades 1-6. The league will be divided into grade level divisions - these divisions will be divided based on numbers of registrations in each grade. Once-a-week practices begin the week of January 6th. Please indicate days you cannot practice at time of registration. Registration deadline is December 1st. Games are Saturdays- January 25, February 1st, February 8th, February 22nd, and March 1st. There are no games over Martin Luther King Weekend or President's Day Weekend. There will be 5 weeks of games and 7 weeks of practices. Players need a jersey to participate in this league. Returning players may use their jersey from last year. New jerseys can be purchased with United Image Group at SalineSpirit.com. Please indicate if you’d like to coach during registration. *Grade levels of league divisions are subject to change based on enrollment numbers. 

Tryouts for grades 3rd-8th boys travel basketball take place mid-September with the season running November through March. Tryouts for grades 7th-8th will be on the same day, but with their season running January through March. 7th and 8th grade boys do not start their season until January due to the Middle School season.  Tryouts will be at the Saline High School.

Tryouts for grades 3rd-8th girls travel basketball take place in mid-September. The 3rd-6th grade season will run November through March.  The 7th-8th grade season will run November through December. The 7th/8th grade team has a shortened season due to the Middle School season. Tryouts will be at the Saline High School. Please register for tryouts online at salineonline.reg.eleyo.com beginning in late summer. 

Join Saline Youth Lacrosse this spring! The boys lacrosse program plans to field teams at the 3/4th, 5/6th and 7th/8th grade levels.They practice on a regular basis beginning in March. Grades 7-8 typically practice four days per week. All equipment must be supplied by the athlete. Uniforms will be ordered for the players.

Come join the fastest growing sport in the US. Register for SMS Girls Lacrosse this spring and see what all the buzz is about! No experience is necessary to play this fun, fast paced sport. Practices begin in March. Players must bring a lacrosse stick, eye goggles, and a mouth guard. Uniforms and a practice pinnie are provided.

Come join us and learn the fun involved with the sport of Cross Country running! Participants will learn through teamwork, unique experiences, various types of workouts, drills and fun what this fun sport has to offer everyone. Workouts will have instruction in training, racing and stretching and will include work on individual goals, performance and personal achievements. There will be three to five competitions throughout the season. Please note that most competitions will take place on Saturdays. Complete schedule to be posted on the Community Education website upon completion. Practices are typically three days per week.

Come learn the basics of track and field while learning life long lessons of teamwork and sportsmanship. All kids will learn proper running form through speed drills, including hurdle technique and relay hand-offs. Through various workouts both on and off the track, we will focus on speed acceleration, speed development, and endurance. There will be at least one intramural scrimmage at the end of the season. Track typically practices three days a week afterschool.

Sixth grade cross country is for students who enjoy running or anyone new wanting to try the sport in a positive team environment. Cross country will offer kids the chance to experience the fun, train hard and compete in several meets and competitions throughout the season.  Please note some meets will take place on Saturdays. Complete season calendars will be posted on the Saline Community Education and Athletics websites once finalized. Please note - In order to participate all runners are required by MHSAA to have a current physical on file, dated after April 15th.

SMS Cross Country Schedule 2024

Sixth grade track is for those students who may be interested in running track at the middle school and high school levels, or who simply want to learn more about the sport in a positive team environment. This program will allow sixth graders to participate in several track meets, learn about the various events, and improve their current fitness level. Emphasis will also be placed on goal setting and proper training. 

This program begins after spring break with registration beginning in December at salineonline.reg.eleyo.com.

Saline Middle School cross country offers camps and conditioning through Saline Community Education at salineonline.reg.eleyo.com. Programs include spring and winter conditioning, and camps in the summer. Registration typically opens several months in advance for these programs. 

Saline Middle School Sideline Cheer is for students in grades 6-8. Cheer on the middle school football teams! This program will teach beginner and intermediate cheer skills including stunting, tumbling, motions, and jumps. Games are typically held on Tuesday evenings in the fall and cheerleaders participate in the Homecoming Parade! Middle school cheerleaders will also be participating in tumbling. All uniform necessities will be purchased separately.

If your child is planning to participate and/or try out for the MS Competitive Cheer team this winter, please make sure to register for tryouts to receive information. Join us this winter learning the ins and outs of competitive cheer! Competitive cheer tryouts are now open to any girls 6th-8th grade! This program will teach beginner and intermediate cheer skills including stunting, tumbling, motions, and jumps. Athletes will also be taught 2 competitive rounds which they will perform at meets throughout the season. Fundraising will be required to obtain competitive team wear. Requirement: Backbend from standing position.

Tryouts are typically in November with a pre-tryout meeting sometime before. Registration for tryouts begins before school starts at salineonline.reg.eleyo.com

The Saline Middle School Field Hockey program welcomes girls in grades 6-8. Middle school field hockey is for those interested in playing in high school or who simply want to learn about this great sport in a fun, competitive team atmosphere. Players will learn technical and tactical skills, game strategy, game rules, and how to play as a cohesive unit. Practices vary in days of the week but are typically held on Mondays-Thursdays. Games are typically played on weekdays and there is one annual Saturday tournament.

Middle school swimming and diving is for those students who may be interested in learning more about the sport in a positive team environment. The season will focus on all aspects of competitive swimming and diving. The team is for 6th, 7th and 8th grade boys and girls. This exciting season will consist of several dual meets and will end with the MISCA meet. Calendars with dates and times for practices and meets will be distributed and posted closer to the beginning of the season.

Boys & girls middle school tennis for grades 6th-8th! Players will have structured practices and learn skill development and compete in inter squad matches. There are limited seats available and they are open to both novice and experienced tennis players. Team shirt provided to keep. Practices are typically after school on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at Saline Middle School.

This program is offered in the fall and spring. Fall registration begins in late summer, spring registration begins in December at salineonline.reg.eleyo.com

Middle school softball tryouts are held in late February/early March. Girls in grades 6-8 are welcome to try out for the team. Season information will be available at a later time. Practices begin after spring break. Register for tryouts at salineonline.reg.eleyo.com beginning in December. 

The purpose of the Community Education Basketball League is to provide high school students who are not currently participating in interscholastic sports with an opportunity to play basketball. Although competitive by nature, the basketball league will not only provide an opportunity for organized competition, but it will also provide an opportunity for physical activity for both fun and fitness. The league allows the HS students to take responsibility for their own teams - communication with their teammates and Community Education, etc.  These are student led teams. Teams are created by the students and will register with their team name.
