April 22, 2014 - The 2014 Best High Schools rankings, released today by U.S. News & World Report, reported that six schools in Michigan's top 60 high schools are in the Ottawa area. The ranking was touted by Doing More. Together., a collaborative effort launched by a coalition of Ottawa area schools, companies and organizations.
"The U.S. News and World Report's ranking of Ottawa area schools as some of the best in the entire state is a welcome recognition of the world class education being provided in schools throughout the area," said Karen McPhee, superintendent of the Ottawa Area Intermediate School District. "Through ‘Doing More. Together.' and our partnership with area businesses and organizations, we're getting the word out about these incredible educational offerings and encouraging the economic development that we know goes hand in hand with quality schools."
Area schools in Michigan's top 60 included Black River Public School, Spring Lake High School, Grand Haven High School, West Ottawa High School, Holland High School and Saugatuck High School.
The report was designed to help parents identify standout schools in their state, and schools throughout the U.S. were evaluated based on overall student performance, the effectiveness of educating black, Hispanic and economically disadvantaged students, and participation in and performance on Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams.
